A World Within a Crater

Africa's Greatest Wildlife Amphitheatre

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact, unflooded volcanic caldera, formed over two million years ago. Often referred to as the "Garden of Eden," it supports a permanent population of over 25,000 large mammals, including the rare black rhino, lions, elephants, and buffalos.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only a wildlife haven but also a place of immense geological and cultural importance. The crater floor spans 260 square kilometres and offers some of the most concentrated wildlife viewing on the continent.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area also protects the Olduvai Gorge, one of the world's most important archaeological sites, where early human remains have been discovered.
