The Migration Cycle

Where to Find the Migration

The Great Migration follows a circular route throughout the year. Understanding this cycle helps us position you in the right place at the right time.

Calving Season

January – March | Southern Serengeti

Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born in the southern Serengeti, attracting large numbers of predators. A time of dramatic life and death in the wild.

River Crossings

July – October | Northern Serengeti, Mara River

The most spectacular phase. Thousands of animals cross the crocodile-infested Mara and Grumeti rivers in a breathtaking display of courage and survival.

Migration Return

November – December | Central Serengeti

The herds move south again, passing through the central and eastern Serengeti as the short rains begin, completing the annual cycle.
